That's The Thing About Fishing is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of the community through the group social interaction of fishing.
The issues we support but are not limited to are:
KIDS & FAMILIES
Through the outdoor experience, children and their families get away from screens and participate in real-world interactions which promote health and social development.
Young people often find trouble when they lack a positive outlet for their boredom and frustration. We help them develop direction, self-esteem, and introduce them to a new skill.
People with a disability commonly feel isolated from the community. The social interaction and group activity of fishing engages them in the community and helps to build support networks.
Many people with a mental illness are not helped by the isolation their condition brings. We believe that positive socialisation reduces the severity of many mental illnesses.
RISK OF SUICIDE
The risk of a person taking their own life is greatly reduced when they are surrounded by a positive, accepting group with a common interest. TTTAF aims to save lives among this risk group.
Violence in the home intimidates and isolates victims. By providing a safe social network, victims are more likely to want to escape their situations if they feel supported and assisted. We aim to do this.
